Rajdhani Express, as the name suggests, is a well renowned passenger train service that connects the capital of the country New Delhi with other significant destinations including capitals of various states, major cities, etc.
Rajdhani Express came into existence in 1969 for offering rapid connections (that may reach up to the speed of 140 km/h) from different railway stations in New Delhi to the various capital cities of different states of India. These trains boast of superior priorities on the Indian railway network and are completely air-conditioned.
Rajdhani Express provides the range of amenities to the passengers including complimentary meals during the travel. Various meals include the Lunch, high tea, dinner; morning tea and breakfast are served that depends on the timings of the train and duration of the travel.
Majority of these trains provide three different classes of accommodation including First Class AC ( 2 or 4 berth lockable bedrooms), Second Class AC 2-tier (open system berths with curtains for privacy), Second Class AC 3-tier (bays of 6 berths + 2 berths on the side without privacy curtains).
Presently there are 18 pairs of Rajdhani Express trains operating in India that links New Delhi to Mumbai (2), Kolkata (3), Chennai, Guwahati/Dibrugarh, Jammu, Patna, Ahmedabad, Secunderabad Railway Station, Bangalore, Jabalpur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Indore, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Rajdhani trains are unique in a way that they have smaller number stops than other express trains and usually they are halted at major cities and business centers of states like Allahabad, Bhopal, Lucknow, Kanpur, Jaipur etc.
One of the major challenges faced by Rajdhani is that of losing their market to cheap airlines as the fares of Rajdhani Express is higher than some low cost airlines and also resurrection of road transport is also giving competition to the market share of Rajdhani Express.
